Donating to the Flood Victims

Lets stop bitching on which bloggers is right and which is wrong on whatever matter it is, so lets show we bloggers are a bunch of caring buggers instead. Yeah i know its bit to late but better late than never. I have talked to a few bloggers and most of them seem to agree with what i have proposed. Thats by gathering all the Malaysia Bloggers and their Readers, and pass the hat along and collect some personal donations to them flood victims down south.

Therefore, to start the ball rolling, I am gonna put in RM50 in to the hat, followed by RojakMan with another RM50 and Aunty Lilian with another RM150 … and there is no limit on the amount you wanna donate!

But before that allow me to clarify a few points … i dunwan go “lokap” k

  • The running period for this would be exactly 1 week from tomorrow - which will end on Fri -12th January 2007 at 0:00hours
  • All personal donations are being collected for temporary safekeeping by earl-ku before being passed to TV3 or MRCS under the name “Caring Malaysian Bloggers”.
  • This is NOT a public solicitation, its strictly open to the bloggers i’ve invited only and those who were in the msn group chat last nite.
  • You cannot donate anonymously.
  • All money must be banked in, no cash!
  • To confirm your personal donations please attach the receipt or printscreen and leave a comment in the comment box below.(Use Imageshack)
  • Confirmed personal donations will be in this list below once you post the receipt or print screen in the comment box.

I have decided that the money that was transfered to me will not be sent to any of the bodies i mentioned earlier in the post, as it will not be able to be delivered to the victims swiftly, so i have talked to a fellow ham - 9W2TKC of MARTS, where he is leading a convoy which consist of 13 4X4 with a medical team to the Southern Region this 13th Jan. He was overjoyed to hear that there are bunch of caring people(bloggers/readers) like us. This Saturday’s convoy would be his 4th convoy down to Johor since the flood started last month.

Initially i thought of using the money collected here to buy them stuff which are in small sizes to be brought down to Johor, such as medical supplies. But then 9W2TKC assured me that he will rope in more 4X4 vehicles if there isnt enough space. So i was told that we could get stuff like gas stove, matress, can food and so on. So the RM638 collected as of now 10/01/2007 930AM will be channeled direcly to the victims by purchasing items and deliver it to them directly. I believe this is a far better approach.

I will get more info on where the 4X4 convoy is heading and put ut up here, will get the stuff done and send to him tonite tommorow, i will go “shopping” after work todaytommorow tonite(coz tomoro i got a meeting after work), you can still send in your money but you will make me do another round of “shopping” …

Chup! The RM150 is not from me. RM50 from me only. The other two belongs to the ‘Guess the Rudolf’ song contest. It rightfully belongs to to two other bloggers. I will mail them and tell them I donated to this instead of a children’s home which they requested earlier.

andrew January 4th, 2007 at 12:22 am

Why not just ask them to donate directly to red crescent society? They have donation drive as well:
http://www.redcrescent.org.my/

The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) is appealing to general public including private sectors, corporate, organisations for generous contributions towards the Malaysian Red Crescent Relief Fund set up to provide financial and relief assistance to people affected by the recent flood.

All cash contributions are tax-exempted and are to be made payable to:

“Malaysian Red Crescent Society” or Maybank A/C No - 5144 2210 3788 or call Tel: +603 - 4257 8726, Fax: +603 - 4257 3537 (Operations Room) for details.

Those who would like to have tax-exemption receipt must fax in your bank-in slip and details (name, address and contact no) to the fax stated.

CincauHangus: no leh, kenot la … mafan

lilian: okay comment here and i will credit them separately …

andrewchan: yeah, true. But then this is what you call a “collective-effort” … nothing works better than “collective-efforts” as compared to individual effort …

kenny gee January 4th, 2007 at 9:50 am

ermm.. i am not really sure how this works, however, it always makes me think that the money is not going into their (victims) pocket. you get what i mean? when u donate it to the particular body, which is tv3. you see, we got examples before. the case in tsunami. there was supposed to be huge amount of money but it turns out little. must be somebody ‘makan’ a bit d. ha.. earl, i have no doubt at your intention, but i am worry about the other organizations that you are passing the money to. watch out about that, alright?

cheers, and happy new year! woohoo!!!!

earl-ku January 4th, 2007 at 10:00 am

cely: hahaha no prob …

kenny gee: eh there is definitely wrong with the system, but we do out part la. or if you want, MARTS the amateur radio group) is sending down convoys down south this 13th and 14th, u can actually join them or see what can u bring them to be taken down south, stuff like bags, cloths, school uniforms etc etc etc …

Samm January 4th, 2007 at 11:15 am

andrew January 4th, 2007 at 1:40 pm

Yeah, earl-ku…I understand your good intention. Just thought maybe it’s better to let others know that they can donate directly for those who don’t trust you…in that case, you have both the collective-effort and the individual-effort…

earl-ku January 4th, 2007 at 1:48 pm

Samm: yeap!

andrew: nope, this is not open to the public, only to my fellow bloggers who know me, i dont think any of them would bank in money if they dont know me and this was not thought out of the blue, have spoke to a few prominent bloggers before i had it up and running …

earl-ku January 4th, 2007 at 6:21 pm

Yien Bin January 8th, 2007 at 3:03 am

wey, my area here in Skudai kena 9 9. Victims were sheltered in a primary school nearby. Kota Tinggi there lagi teruk oh. My Internet was down for 2 weeks. I think now all back home ready, no more traffic jam near the school. Me n a friend visited the school and dropped 5 boxes of alpine drinking water. I saw an uncle drove lorry there unloaded all the bedrolls there. They’ve got volunteers there to register all the donators, but most people who brought stuffs there didn’t care. So actually, got the heart to help ok already la. My 2 thumbs up for the action here.

earl-ku January 8th, 2007 at 10:13 am

Yien Bin: I have gone through my fair share of flood experience, back in 95, 96 at Taman Sri Muda, Shah Alam. The whole housing eatate turned into Water World, and yeah the boats was there, so those elderly and children were priority, my sister was taken to some shelter center which we did not know of, at last we stopped a rescue boat doing his rounds in the middle of the nite and they took my mom to go search all the shelter centre … when we found her, she was happily with one of my moms friends who recognized her and took her with them.

we took shelter in an apartment with almost 20 people crammed in there, slept on the floor with newspaper as blanket - no kidding! Some lorry who was delivering bread to the nearby 7-11 was caught in the flood and he passsed out all the bread in his truck, thats what we had for 3 days straight, bread bread bread and bread …

then there was a second and third flood, and some small ones in between …

at the shelter centre, we were given boiled water all the time, thats all they were giving out, even when food from donators arrived or from some charity body, they would make everyone q and then wait for the blardy fucking vip, some minister, or some parlimentary meber to come and hand them out, all the while with reporters snapping away … we slept on the floor, we were not even given any mat, newpapers was theonly thing we had …

so i know how bad it is to be caught in a flood …

Are you still collecting donations? I am trying to collate a list of ways to help the Johor flood victims, and I’d like to add your post to the list.
