The information from the Malaysian Meteorological Dept is a little misleading, as the initial earthquake was reported at around 7:28 Malaysian Time by the USGS (US Geological Survey), measuring around 7.3 on the Richter scale.

In any case, there doesn’t seem to be any risk of a massive Tsunami like the one in December 2004. However, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has indicated that smaller localized tsunamis may occur in the surrounding coast line.

A friend of mine from Tawau called me this morning. There’s not much happenning there, only peoples moving
out from their house and gathered at the field and other flatground as well.
